Prerequisite — Pinyin for Mandarin Chinese

Chapter 1 — Sound System Foundations: Introduction to Pinyin as the standardized sound system for Mandarin, including how Mandarin syllables are formed and how initials and finals work together to create accurate pronunciation.

Chapter 2 — Tones and Pronunciation Clarity: Overview of Mandarin’s tone system, tone contours, and tone changes to ensure learners develop accurate speaking habits and avoid misunderstandings in real communication.

Chapter 3 — Practical Pinyin for Speaking and Listening: Application of Pinyin in everyday speech, focusing on real-life phrases, listening comprehension, and speaking confidence before learning Chinese characters.

章节 1 — 英文字母与字母顺序: 认识 26 个英文字母、大小写形式、字母表顺序,为听说读写打好基础。

章节 2 — 基础发音与字母音: 介绍字母的基本读音、英文发音特点,为后续拼读与口语做准备。

章节 3 — 自然拼读入门: 学习字母与发音之间的对应关系,帮助学生更容易地阅读、拼写和辨音,提高英语学习效率。

How Lessons Work

Lesson format & approach

  • Online only (no onsite teaching).
  • 1:1 video lessons; small group options will be added later as more students request.
  • Beginner: structured units (materials shared after payment + scheduling).
  • Intermediate/Advanced: first lesson is an assessment to choose appropriate materials (short stories, discussion topics, news-style articles, etc.).
  • Focus on all four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Flexible scheduling (weekday/daytime/evening/weekend options as available).
Note: There is a registration fee of $45.

Online tools

  • Video meeting: Zoom / Google Meet / (and others as needed).
  • For Chinese-speaking learners: WeChat can be used for coordination (if appropriate).
  • Learning materials are shared directly with enrolled students.

  • Left: clear cultural background/explanation (short, practical, respectful).
  • Right: one strong cultural photo/visual (real-life context).
  • Optional: a short “language in the wild” note (e.g., what you might see/hear in a café, market, station, etc.).
